MEXICO CITY, March 11 (Reuters) - Mexico's most wanted man Joaquin "Shorty" Guzman, blamed for thousands of deaths in a drug war, has made it onto the Forbes Magazine list of the world's richest people with an estimated $1 billion fortune.

Guzman, who is just 5 feet tall (1.55 metres), escaped from prison in 2001 to set off a wave of killings across Mexico in an attempt to dominate the country's highly lucrative drug trade into the United States.

"He is not available for interviews," Luisa Kroll, senior editor of Forbes, said on Wednesday. "But his financial situation is doing quite well."

Forbes placed Guzman at 701 on its list, tied with dozens of others worldwide with riches of some $1 billion.

Guzman, 51, who officials believe changes his cell phone every day to avoid being tracked, is often compared to the late Colombian kingpin Pablo Escobar, whom Forbes has said amassed a fortune of $3 billion before he was killed by police in 1993.

The Mexican smuggler is "basically one of the biggest providers of cocaine to the United States," Kroll said. The magazine based its tally of his fortune on estimates from drug-trade analysts and U.S. government data.

Guzman's prison escape and ability to elude capture for eight years are an embarrassment to the Mexican government.

He has outwitted four major government drives to find him between 2002 and 2007. His escapades are the stuff of legend in the areas he controls and in popular "narcocorrido" songs that glorify drug traffickers.

Mexico's attorney general, Eduardo Medina Mora, told Reuters last week that defeating Guzman's cartel of traffickers from the Pacific state of Sinaloa was a priority in President Felipe Calderon's army-backed drug fight.

Some 7,000 people have been killed in drug violence across Mexico since the start of last year as rival gangs fight each other and Mexican security forces. Guzman's enforcers from the Sinaloa cartel are among the most vicious hitmen.

Forbes said Mexican and Colombian traffickers laundered between $18 billion and $39 billion in proceeds from wholesale drugs shipments to the United States in 2008.

Guzman and his operation likely grossed 20 percent of that -- enough for him to have pocketed $1 billion over his career and earn a spot on the billionaire's list for the first time.

About 90 percent of all cocaine consumed in the United States comes through Mexico. It also is a major source of heroin, methamphetamines and marijuana in the United States.

DETROIT -- A former produce store is under investigation after Detroit police allegedly found up to a 1,000 marijuana plants inside.

An employee at Crown Plating which is located next door to the building where the plants were found, called police after finding the door kicked in.

Police Uncover Marijuana Plant Operation

When police responded to what they thought was a breaking and entering call, they found 1,000 marijuana plants inside, police said.

Officers said it appeared to be a professional and high-tech operation.

Police said the building was filled wall-to-wall of plants.

The building is located at 7236 West Jefferson on the city's southwest side.

No one is in custody.

The investigation continues.

The unbelievable picture, taken by chance, shows Brit keeper Alex Larenty nonchalantly doing what most people would think twice about even with their pet tabby – let alone a lion.

Amazingly Alex, 50, is seen holding Jamu the lion’s package in the palm of his hand while the big cat looks away with feline indifference.

The shot was taken at The Lion Park, near Johannesburg, South Africa, just weeks before a man who broke into the reserve was mauled and killed by some of its lions.

Alex, who is originally from Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, said the reason he made the daring grab for Jamu’s "lionhood" was to demonstrate how much trust the animal had for him.

He said: “I was showing another warden that Jamu trusts me completely, I don’t think I would trust him with my manhood though.

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - A Fort Pierce woman called 911 three times to report an emergency after McDonald's had run out of McNuggets, according to a police report obtained Tuesday.

Latreasa Goodman, 27, was issued a written notice to appear in court for misusing the 911 emergency communications system.

According to the report, Goodman called 911 three times Saturday to report that a McDonald's employee wasn't giving her a refund for the chicken nuggets she wanted.

When police arrived, Goodman said she purchased a 10-piece chicken McNuggets meal, received her change and then was told McDonald's had run out of McNuggets. Goodman said she tried to get a refund, but the cashier told her it was against store policy and that all sales are final.

"The manager just took my money and won't give me my money back, trying to make me get something off the menu that I don't want," Goodman said in one of the 911 calls. "I ordered chicken nuggets. They don't have chicken nuggets, and so I told her, 'Just give me my money back,' and she tells me I have to pick something else off the menu. She is not going to give me my money back, and she don't have the right to take my money."

According to the report, after police told Goodman the incident was not an emergency, Goodman replied, "This is an emergency. If I would have known they didn't have McNuggets, I wouldn't have given my money, and now she wants to give me a McDouble, but I don't want one. This is an emergency."

Goodman told WPBF News 25 that she didn't "have a right to jump across the counter and snatch" the money, so she chose to handle it another way.

Customers at the McDonald's where the incident occurred had mixed feelings about the McNugget meltdown.

Daniel Slaton said he typically orders McNuggets when he goes to McDonald's, saying simply, "I just like them better than anywhere else."

But Sallee Bair had a different perspective.

"That's a little overboard," Bair said. "That's way too much, way extreme for chicken nuggets. They're not that great."

Goodman said it wasn't so much about the nuggets as it was the money.

"When you feel that you've been mistreated or misused or robbed out of your money, you have the right to call 911," Goodman said. "That's the purpose of 911, so I thought."

Carlos Solorzano, operations manager for all McDonald's restaurants in Florida, issued a statement Tuesday apologizing for the incident.

"Satisfying each and every customer that visits our restaurants is very important to us," Solorzano said. "Regarding this isolated incident, we apologize for the inconvenience caused. In the event that we are unable to fill an order, a customer should be offered the choice of a full refund or alternative menu items. We regret that in this instance, that wasn't the case.

"We want to correct our mistake. We will be sending the customer her refund, along with an invitation to return for her original order, on us. We never want to disappoint a McNuggets fan or any McDonald's customer. Customer satisfaction is our top priority."

Goodman said she'll continue to go to McDonald's, but she also said she'd order with a little more caution next time.

"I'm not going and just giving up my money like that, no, but I'm going to ask them would they please check and see if they have what I want on the menu, and if they tell me yes, then I will order," she said.

World's oldest marijuana stash totally busted

Nearly two pounds of still-green plant material found in a 2,700-year-old grave in the Gobi Desert has just been identified as the world's oldest marijuana stash, according to a paper in the latest issue of the Journal of Experimental Botany.
A barrage of tests proves the marijuana possessed potent psychoactive properties and casts doubt on the theory that the ancients only grew the plant for hemp in order to make clothing, rope and other objects. They apparently were getting high too.
Lead author Ethan Russo told Discovery News that the marijuana "is quite similar" to what's grown today. "We know from both the chemical analysis and genetics that it could produce THC (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid synthase, the main psychoactive chemical in the plant)," he explained, adding that no one could feel its effects today, due to decomposition over the millennia.
Russo served as a visiting professor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Botany while conducting the study. He and his international team analyzed the cannabis, which was excavated at the Yanghai Tombs near Turpan, China. It was found lightly pounded in a wooden bowl in a leather basket near the head of a blue-eyed Caucasian man who died when he was about 45.
"This individual was buried with an unusual number of high value, rare items," Russo said, mentioning that the objects included a make-up bag, bridles, pots, archery equipment and a kongou harp. The researchers believe the individual was a shaman from the Gushi people, who spoke a now-extinct language called Tocharian that was similar to Celtic.
Scientists originally thought the plant material in the grave was coriander, but microscopic botanical analysis of the bowl contents, along with genetic testing, revealed that it was cannabis.
The size of seeds mixed in with the leaves, along with their color and other characteristics, indicate the marijuana came from a cultivated strain. Before the burial, someone had carefully picked out all of the male plant parts, which are less psychoactive, so Russo and his team believe there is little doubt as to why the cannabis was grown.
What is in question, however, is how the marijuana was administered, since no pipes or other objects associated with smoking were found in the grave.
"Perhaps it was ingested orally," Russo said. "It might also have been fumigated, as the Scythian tribes to the north did subsequently."
Although other cultures in the area used hemp to make various goods as early as 7,000 years ago, additional tomb finds indicate the Gushi fabricated their clothing from wool and made their rope out of reed fibers. The scientists are unsure if the marijuana was grown for more spiritual or medical purposes, but it's evident that the blue-eyed man was buried with a lot of it.
"As with other grave goods, it was traditional to place items needed for the afterlife in the tomb with the departed," Russo said.
The ancient marijuana stash is now housed at Turpan Museum in China. In the future, Russo hopes to conduct further research at the Yanghai site, which has 2,000 other tombs.

The veteran wide receiver, who caught the winning pass in Super Bowl XLII, met with Mara, general manager Jerry Reese and head coach Tom Coughlin to learn of his fate.
After undergoing treatment on his leg, Burress was sent to Dr. Scott Rodeo for an MRI exam on his injured leg. He returned to Giants Stadium shortly after 3 p.m. and was informed by Reese that he was being placed on the reserve/non-football injury list.
“The decision we made today regarding Plaxico’s roster status was based on the examination of Plaxico by our team physician,” Reese said. “Dr. Rodeo believes Plaxico would be out at least four to six weeks with the gunshot wound.
“I had two conversations with Plaxico today, and it was obvious that he understood the magnitude of this situation. He knows that we are here to support him and help him get healthy.”
Coughlin said no one player can replace Burress in the starting lineup.
“When you lose a player of Plaxico’s ability, it is incumbent that everybody step up and fill the void,” Giants coach Tom Coughlin said. “In the last two seasons, this team has done an outstanding job of that. We made it clear to Plax today that we are here to support him in any way possible.”
Burress turned himself in to detectives at New York City’s 17th Precinct in midtown Manhattan on Monday, where he was charged with criminal possession of a weapon following a shooting incident late Friday night at the Latin Quarter nightclub.
According to police reports, Burress shot himself in the thigh and was hospitalized overnight before he was released at about 2 p.m. Saturday.
A police spokesman said the investigation is continuing.
Burress and teammate Antonio Pierce were at the Latin Quarter when the shooting occurred. Pierce, appearing on New York radio station WFAN late Monday afternoon, pleaded with the public to “don’t believe everything you hear.”
A first-round pick of the Pittsburgh in 2000, Burress spent his first five seasons with the Steelers before joining the Giants in 2005.
Burress had a pair of 1,000-yard seasons with New York, and hauled in a career-high 12 touchdown passes in 2007 despite not practicing for virtually the entire season due to a gimpy ankle.
In the Giants’ stunning 17-14 victory over then-unbeaten New England in the Super Bowl, Burress caught a 13-yard scoring pass from Eli Manning with 35 seconds to play to provide the winning margin.
But matters have spiraled downward this season for Burress, who finished with 41 receptions for 454 yards and four touchdowns this year.
Burress, who signed a five-year, $35 million contract extension prior to the season, missed the Giants’ October 5 game against the Seattle Seahawks after being suspended for missing a team meeting.
He also was involved in a sideline confrontation with Coughlin during a game and has been fined multiple times for a total of approximately $200,000.

FIRST GRADER ACCUSED OF USING KNIFE TO ROB BOY IN SCHOOL BATHROOM

The Miami Herald says a first-grader was suspended after he allegedly robbed a 6-year-old classmate at knife-point last week in the boy's bathroom of a Pines Lakes, Fla., elementary school.

The alleged victim, who lost $1, wasn't injured, according to the paper.

Local police are on the case. ''We're still investigating to make a final determination on what exactly happened,'' Pembroke Pines police Deputy Chief Dave Golt tells the Herald. "When you're talking to children of that age, there are always inconsistencies in the story."

WFOR-TV says the suspect was suspended for 10 days and faces expulsion.

Update at 10:18 a.m. ET: The Sun-Sentinel quotes a police spokesman who described the incident as an "armed robbery."

Ok so the College Basketball season has begun and this is like my favorite sport of them all because of the passion here. None of these guys are gettin paid (except for those select few on each team...lol). Well I don't know if ya'll are fans but if not you need to check out this kid Stephen Curry. In the first two weeks since the election, President-elect Barack Obama has broken with a tradition established over the past eight years through his controversial use of complete sentences, political observers say.

Millions of Americans who watched Mr. Obama's appearance on CBS's 60 Minutes on Sunday witnessed the president-elect's unorthodox verbal tic, which had Mr. Obama employing grammatically correct sentences virtually every time he opened his mouth.

But Mr. Obama's decision to use complete sentences in his public pronouncements carries with it certain risks, since after the last eight years many Americans may find his odd speaking style jarring.

According to presidential historian Davis Logsdon of the University of Minnesota, some Americans might find it "alienating" to have a president who speaks English as if it were his first language.

"Every time Obama opens his mouth, his subjects and verbs are in agreement," says Mr. Logsdon. "If he keeps it up, he is running the risk of sounding like an elitist."

The historian said that if Mr. Obama insists on using complete sentences in his speeches, the public may find itself saying, "Okay, subject, predicate, subject predicate -- we get it, stop showing off."

The president-elect's stubborn insistence on using complete sentences has already attracted a rebuke from one of his harshest critics, Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska.

"Talking with complete sentences there and also too talking in a way that ordinary Americans like Joe the Plumber and Tito the Builder can't really do there, I think needing to do that isn't tapping into what Americans are needing also," she said.

Three found, busted after getting lost in sewer

Three blockheaded teenagers were busted playing in a sewer Wednesday in Queens - after getting lost while pretending to be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, police sources said.

Schiller Milfort, 16, of Hollis, and Marvin Ottley, 17, of Bellaire, along with an unidentified 15-year-old boy, were shirtless and in their shorts and sneakers when firefighters plucked them out of a sewer in Kissena Park.

The make-believe heroes were crawling around the sewer system when they got confused and lost their way, police sources said.

They were not injured, officials said.

"These three idiots were playing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and wanted to go into the sewers," said one police source. "They were never in danger, just goofing off and being stupid."

Milfort and Ottley were charged with criminal trespassing. The other teenager was released to his parents.

If that's what you want to call it....This dude McCain really gets on my nerves...Last night he went on to state that Senator and hopefully my next President, Barack Obama has not made an effort to repudiate some things that have been said in a negative aspect about McCain...Then he goes on to state that every single time someone is out of line with comments in regards to Obama, he immediately corrects them..(imitating Charlie Murphy)...WRONG....WRONG...what about the individual who just yelled "Kill Him" in regards to Obama at a recent rally.....what about his VP selection (who we won't talk bad about cuz she is doin the best she can)who at her own rallies says things like Barack is running around with Terrorist's?....Then this man goes on some more to say how Senator Obama has spent more money on a negative campaign than any other presidential nominee....Has Senator McCain's mind gone completely haywire since he began taking his medication for his early stages of Alzheimer's??...Barack Obama has raised more money than any Presidential Hopeful EVER....that's right....EVER....and FACT: Obama's campaign is 80 percent...80% about the issues at hand and only 20% negativity...and I think the only reason there is negativity is because the negativity from the other party has weighed so heavily on this campaign...hence the reason why Barack felt as though he had to explain himself last night when it comes to William Ayers, etc.....This shouldn't have been discussed at the Presidential Debate when the stock market is steady falling and people are losing their homes on a daily basis....no one is safe anymore....hell even the NBA said today that they are cutting jobs....Wake up people....Wake up!!!

Walmart Busts Three Men for Fraud After Accidentally Selling Them Empty Computer Boxes
Tuesday, October 14, 2008

CHANDLER, Ariz. — Three men from Mexico have been arrested in what authorities are calling a stolen credit card scam.

Adolfo Paz Gracia, 35, Javier Carreno Cruz, 29, and Jose Diaz Valenzuela, 29, were booked into Fourth Avenue Jail in Phoenix on three counts of forgery and one count of fraud schemes each.

Chandler police responded Sunday to a Wal-Mart store when employees reported three men bought a laptop computer and returned with an empty box, claiming a laptop was never in it.

Thinking the men were attempting to defraud the store, store employees called police.

When police arrived, one of the men ran away. During the chase, he threw credit cards to the ground. Police recovered the cards and determined they were forgeries.

Authorities say further investigation showed the three had 19 forged credit cards, which they allegedly had used to buy electronic items from other Wal-Mart stores in the Phoenix metropolitan area.

The counterfeit credit cards were encoded with valid stolen credit card numbers and police say an investigation is ongoing to identify the account holders.

Store employees later discovered they had indeed sold an empty box to the three men.

I was watching this game and then I fell asleep cuz I was bored with it personally. For some odd reason the CBS wasn't working so I couldn't catch the other game. At first everything was fine. I had a plate of hot food in front of me and something to roll up. The food was devoured and my plants were calmly up in smoke under the Cheech and Chong act....lol....By the time I fell asleep we were down 9 to 3. What a way to wake up though, a text message that put a smile on my face saying "You miss me?" and then just as my smile reaches full potential, I see this bastard Jason Elam kicking the field goal that had everyone's heart drop faster than the stock on Wall Street.
